An early Byzantine fragment of a table top, circa 400 - 5th century A marble frieze around the border with depiction of a tree, the head of a youth with long hair and a Nereid seated on a hippocampus. Bead and reel motifs along the outer edge. Isolated, minimal knocks, otherwise in outstanding condition. A typical example of the concept of art on luxury objects from late antiquity.
