A horse rider flat out in a race at the Saignelegier horse fair
The annual Saignelegier horse fair is held in the canton of Jura, Switzerland, on the second weekend in August. It is an event at which the annual crop of foals of the local Franches-Montagnes breed are put up for sale. In addition, there are equestrian displays, parades and horse races. This colourful and dramatic summer festival draws tens of thousands of spectators from across Switzerland, but is less well known outside the country.
