Ancient Windmill in central Portugal

photographed in November 2010 in Central Portugal. It is still used today for grinding maize (corn). Situated on top of a steep hill to catch westerly winds off the Atlantic ocean. This windmill can be rotated on its own axis for optimum wind catchment.
