We do not hesitate to recommend this as the coming scarlet caruation. Nothing will equal it. Tested three years and has proven to be a most satisfactory variety, not alone as a scarlet, but as a commercial carnation. A large flowering sort, producing both quality and quantity. It comes into flower early and continues an even all-season bloomer. Produces an average 3 in. bloom, having smooth outer petals with a well built-up centre, a strong, well-formed calyx, a 16 in. to 18 in. stem of remarkable firmness, holding the flower erect in the early part of the season as well as the later spring months, a delightful fragrance, and in color a clear, brilliant scarlet, with no tendency to fade. Growth strong and robust, clean, hard, broad foliage and makes a strong, well-formed plant. It lifts and trans- plants from the field without any noticeable signs of wilting. Model growth, stem, flower, color, and a most essential quality, being in full flower when most needed, recommends it to every grower. Received American Carnation Society certificate in Chicago, February, 1898, receiving ninety-two points; certificate and silver medal at Chicago Chrysanthemum Show, November, 1898; certificate at Indianapolis, Novem- ber, 1898.
