The ASIATIC ROEBUCK (Capreolus pygargus). Paler and larger than the typical species, the height at shoulderbeing 30 to 34 inches ; the ears shorter and more hairy, the white rump-patch larger, and the antlers longer and more rugose with numerousknotted snags or pearls. ASIATIC ROEBUCK 95 Distribution.—From the northern Caucasus, the Altai, and mountainsof Turkestan to Eastern Siberia. The typical representative isthe Altai roebuck. The Tien Shan race {C. p. tianshanicus) hasantlers somewhat different in form and more branched.
