Stroh startedas missionaries to this part of the State, and in 1825 reported 451 NORTHEAST CONFERENCE having preached seventy-eight times, catechised and confirmedeighty, and called attention to congregations at Alleghany, Phil-ipsburg, Oldtown (Clearfield), and Curwensville. Surely thesemen, being from the same Synod as Dr. Gaissenhainer, wouldknow something about Karthaus and also preach here. In 1825, the West Pennsylvania Synod was organized, andafter hearing the pleadings of the Clearfield County Lutheransfor pastors again and again, with the brethren Guelich andSchnars and others appearing before Synod, they finally heardthem, when Father Guelich offered a ten-acre lot for church and. THE OAK HILL LUTHERAN CHURCH parsonage, in 1832. At last, in 1841, their prayers were answered,and Rev. John Willox moved to Karthaus. But they neededGerman services, so in 1843 Rev- Jonn G. Donmeyer became theirpastor. ORGANIZATIONS For forty years this people were without church organizationand often pastorless. Not until February 4, 1854. under Rev. P. S. Nellis, did theyeffect a permanent organization. Sixty-six members enrolled in452 OAK HILL CHURCH the Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church of Clearfield County, besidesnineteen living at Snow Shoe, Center County. Church officerswere elected. All these eighty-five charter members have passedaway, some just within a few years, and all living to good ages.
