Old-growth tree tops Western hemlock, Western red cedar and Sitka spruce, Lyell Island, Haida Gwaii, British Columbia

Lyell Island, site of the former village of Hlk'yah Llnagaay, was the site of a logging protest that led to the protection of the area and the creation of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site. A trail at Hlk’yah G̱awG̱a runs along Windy Bay Creek and winds through old-growth western hemlock, red cedar and Sitka spruce. This is the last intact watershed on Lyell Island.
