Sculptures on the edge of a Tamil Nadu village in the Sivaganga district designed to ward off evil. They are common throughout the south Indian state


They typically depict fearsome village guardians in front of rearing horses in homage to the god Ayyanar who as their protector, reputedly patrols the villages at night on horseback.
