Demolition of the Abbey of Montmartre': Louis Gabriel Moreau (c1740-c1806), French painter and etcher. During the French Revolution the Abbey buildings were virtually demolished. The remains were so derelict by the mid-19th century that complete destruction was proposed. Between 1899-1905 a major restoration programme took place.
