Sai Ying Pun and Sheung Wan, at the north-western end of Hong Kong Island, are two of the oldest, least modernised parts of Hong Kong. Everyday Hong Kong street life is seen in the atmospheric streets and alleyways, where open-fronted 'shop-houses', with goods overflowing onto the pavement, sell everything from daily necessities to traditional Chinese medicine. Here, at the junction of Hollywood Road with Queen's Road west, we see a street vendor selling magazines and newspapers outside a ladies boutique in the street level storey of a weathered apartment block.
