A more delightful and thoroughlyheart-warming entertainment we never attended. The next day wehad opportunity to look in at the school in session, and were struck. NATIVES. with admiration at the proficiency of the pupils, even in studies faradvanced. Some of the girls gave us a dialogue in English, and theeffect of this rough tongue of ours being caressed by lips accustomedto the liquid and sonorous Spanish was most delicious. Sitting as spectators of these exercises, with those threescorehappy children before us, the embodiment of health and happiness,with the intellectual sunlight dancing in their eyes, and the eagernessfor knowledge manifested in their work, we allowed ourselves to specu-late upon the possible future of Spain, with a thousand such influencesas these working upon her masses.
