CARIBBEAN SEA (Sept. 19, 2017) A GOES satellite image of Hurricane Maria in the Caribbean Sea. The storm is a Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale. On the forecast track, the eye of Maria will move over the northeastern Caribbean Sea on Tuesday, and approach the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Tuesday night and Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 155 mph (250 km/h) with higher gusts.
