On tho chin and crisaura the tips of feathers arc much lighter than tho ashy bases, producing a mixture of the two colors, although this is scarcely appreciable in some specimens. There is a very faint indication occasionally of a dusky line on each side of the chin, as in M. obscurus. Young birds have a large triangular pale ochraceous light spot on the end of each feather (rather paler below), bounded externally by a narrow border of blackish; the quill- and tail-feathers as in the adult.
