Senate House University of London Malet Street London UK

Designed by Charles Holden, Senate House was completed in 1936. A significant example of English Art Deco architecture, at 64 metres high it was on its opening the highest secular building in Britain. During World War II it housed the British Government's Ministry of Information and was apparently the inspiration for the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell's novel 1984.
