They are more often seen uponelm and apple trees, but other trees are not exempt; and often,towards the end of summer, most of our fruit and shade treesshow the ominous web enclosing dried leaves. The eggs fromwhich these caterpillars proceed, are laid by the parent moth ina cluster upon the end leaf of a branch. When these eggshatch, they are generally on the third or fourth leaf from the endof the twig, as since the eggs were laid the limbs have usuallyextended their growth to that extent. As so
