Mingled with the common Egg-Urchin on oyster-bedsand scallop-banks is the little species before ns, and pro-bably it is often passed over as the young of Echinussphara. Its long purple spines, however, at once distin-guish it from the latter in its young state ; and when weexamine it more carefully we find that it presents manyexcellent characters peculiar to itself.
