Ice is a recurring concern in the winter for industries that rely on navigation to transport commodities due to blockages that can happen at locks and dams operated by the Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District. To get ahead of navigation impacts, the Pittsburgh District is a member of the Ice Hydro Committee in which they collaborate with local, state and federal partners each week to review ice concerns on the riverways. The committee uses weather forecast as well as a database reporting system to share critical ice information with one another. ( Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District photo by Michel Sauret)
