He was fond of a sailors life andfollowed it for several successive 1855 he came to Iowa and purchased afarm iu Franklin county, Geneva town-ship. On the 9th of September, 1858, hewas married to Nancy Marvin, of PikeCo., Ohio. The following winter theyspent in Illinois, and in the spring cameto Franklin Co., Iowa. He immediatelybegan improving his place though theydid not move on it until 1866. That yearhe built a substantial stone house and thefollowing year set out an orchard andplanted a grove of maple trees.
