Almost fledged young Magellanic penguin, Isla Magdalena, Chile

Magdelana Island is a designated refuge for the Magellanic penguins in the Strait of Magelllan. It has been a national monument, Los Pingüinos Natural Monument, since 1982. The island is the breeding location for several species of seabirds, besides the Magellanic penguins. With the exception of a few Park Rangers who live next to the lighthouse, the island is uninhabited.
