Councils ofwar were called, and defensive measures were promptly taken,among these being the daily exercise of the Halifax militia,and the ordering of 200 men to Halifax from Lunenburg. Thislast was subsequently countermanded, in view of the insolenceof the Indians in that quarter. One hundred of the militiaof Kings county were ordered to escort to Halifax all theFrench neutrals who were then working for some of the inhabi-tants of Kings and Annapolis counties. A
