In June, 1805, Detroit was destroyed byfire, and when General Hull, the first territorialGovernor, arrived, he found tlie people campedin the open fields with scanty food and cloth-ing. Lndaunted by misfortune, these pioneerserected a new city on the old site, and Detroitbecame the territorial capital.
