As previously mentioned, the main machine shop is lo-cated in a central part of the structure formerly used forcarpentry. The four tracks of this section were spanned. One of the cranesmentioned to be equipped with a 5-hp motor, which willdo the work of four men usually required to operate itmanually. An I-beam will also be hung from the cranetrack to facilitate the handling of armatures from trucksto lathes. The machinery comprisesthe following: Two 12-in. enginelathes; one 9-in. engine lathe; one6-in. speed lathe; one 36-in. drillpress; one 24-in. drill press; one12-in. drill press; one 32-in. x 32-in. xlo-ft. planer; one 14-in. x ; one 20-in. emery wheel;one wheel grinder; one axle straight-ener, and one pinion press. The section in front of this ma-chine shop is used for inspection andmiscellaneous car-body work. Oneof the illustrations taken in thisshop show an interesting method oftaking armatures in and out of opencars with a Yale & Towne triplexchain hoist.
