London, England. A view of the ‘The Hobbs Gate’ at the Oval Cricket Ground in Kennington, Lambeth, south London. The gate bears the inscription, “In Honour of a Great Surrey & England Cricketer” and is named after Sir John Berry Hobbs (1882 –1963). Commonly known as Jack Hobbs, he was an English professional cricketer who played for Surrey between 1905 to 1934 and appeared in 61 Test matches for England between 1908 and 1930. The Oval is an international cricket ground which has been the home ground of Surrey County Cricket Club since it was opened in 1845.
