Hong Kong Chinese marketing mobile phones to Filipina Amahs enjoying their day off, Hong Kong SAR
Philippine Amahs come to work in Hong Kong. They perform nearly any sort of task a Hong Kong Chinese or foreign expatriat employer might need. They cook, clean, take care of kids and elderly family members, shop, to name just a few things. By some standards they make very little for their work. By Philippine standards, it's said they can do quite well. If they manage their money well, they can go back and get a good start on a business or on purchasing a home. Some don't plan to go back. The amah lifestyle has in some way grown on them. Either way, their work helps drastically improve the quality of life of their employers in Hong Kong. On Sunday, their day off, they're found in huge numbers socializing all over the city and islands.
