On Saturday 5th December 2015, Storm desmond crashed into the UK, producing the UK's highest ever 24 hour rainfall total at It flooded the Lakeland village Glenridding, which was just starting to repair when another period of heavy rain on Wednesday 9th December caused the Glenridding Beck to burst its banks, causing yet further destruction. This picture taken the next morning on Thursday 10th December of diggers trying to clear flood debris from the river, with bottled water in the foreground. It is ironic that after so much rain, the village has no drinking water as the supply was cut by the floods.
