Entamoeba invadens. Light micrograph of Entamoeba invadens, a parasitic amoeba. Although E. invadens is harmless to humans, it causes illness in reptiles. The amoeba live in the intestine, consuming bacteria and food particles. It rapidly reproduces, each \parent\" asexually dividing to form two \"daughters\". The amoeba form cysts which pass out of the host in the faeces. These cysts can infect a fresh host when taken in by mouth. Magnification unknown."
