Central Park. Satellite image of Central Park, a large park in New York City, USA. Between 12-23 February 2005, an art installation called 'The Gates' by Christo Javacheff and Jean-Claude Denat de Guillebon was put on public view in the park. 7,503 temporary gates were set up along 37 kilometres of park pathways. Each gate held a panal of free-hanging, saffron-coloured fabric. The artists wanted the fabric to be a golden ceiling for those walking through the park, and a golden river for those looking from the surrounding buildings.
