One factor in the pig iron mar-ket undoubtedly is that last spring andsummer consumers were striving to re-duce their stocks, and carried the pro-cess too far, as is usual in such blew out until production wasbelow consumption, and then came thestrike. That the strike is not in itselfresponsible for ail of the present short-age in pig iron is shown by productionreports, to the effect that production ofpig iron by merchant furnaces was 90 percent, as heavy in October strike curtailment, however, wasmore than 10 per cent., being probablyfully 25 per cent., production havingbeen increased up to the time of thestrike, September —Hanny in St. Joseph News-Press. The only kind of striking needed just now. 84 November 15, 1919
