A GInetta G18, a Lotus 61 and a Merlyn Mk20A, in the National Pit Garage at the 2017 Silverstone Classic

Of the original 7 there are only 3 Ginetta G18’s left. One is a hill climber, another is an F3 car and this one is the Formula Ford. The car is in for a rolling road tune and for the geometry and corner weight to be setup. “I wanted to give you feedback from the set up work and rolling road session. I am pleased to say that, during the Silverstone races today, the car felt very different being predictable and filling me with confidence. Thank you for all the work during the session.” Best regards Bill Cowing Lotus 61 is a Formula Ford, "the wedge"Formula Ford has been with us since 1967 when Brands Hatch's John Webb and Geoff Clarke, the owner of Motor Racing Stables, approached Ford competition manager- Henry Taylor to provide them with 54 identical Ford Kent engines for use in their school cars and for a new one make single seater series. Formula Ford was announced to the world from the Racing Car Show at Olympia with rules and regulations prescribed by the MSA division. Lotus were quick to capitalise on this exciting and innovative series and they became an instant Works team. By 1969 they were becoming dominant when this car, chassis number 61-FF-200, was built and driven by Ian Ashley on behalf of the factory as team mate to the legendary ex world champion, Emerson Fittipaldi. It then raced in Britain during the 1970's until eventually ending up in Italy, where it was discovered by Simon Hadfield and reimported about ten years ago. It was then prepared by Simon and raced extensively by him with success and then laid up until finally being bought by our current vendor- another legendary BRDC racer-Denis Racing Developments Ltd, founded by Selwyn Hayward and continued by Clive Hayward, produced Merlyn racing cars from 1960 till 1979. During this time we built up our own machine shop to manufacture race car components. Machining and engineering for customers became a successful addition to the business and eventually CRD Tool and Engineerin
