Roses are more plentiful at this writ- ing, but they clean up every day at sat- isfactory prices. American Beauties continue in brisk demand and bring top- notch figures. Russell roses are arriving in large quantities, but there are none too many to go around. Killarney Bril- liant roses are reaching the market in exceptionally fine condition and the re- ceipts of Ophelia appear to be heavier. Carnations are plentiful enough to sup- ply the demand, but they are not so nu- merous as they were. As a result prices are better, although as yet not what they should be. Tulips, jonquils, daffo- dils and freesias are more numerous and the call for these is heavy. The first Rainbow freesias made their appearance this week and sold as soon as they were offered for sale. Valley was unusually scarce last week; it was almost impossi- ble to supply the demand. Orchids are in good supply and there are plenty of gardenias to go around. Easter lilies and callas are selling quickly on account of the large quantity of funeral work. Sweet peas are seen in large quantities everywhere, but they have a good call and there is never any surplus to speak of. Snapdragons, mignonette, pansies and daisies are included in the many of- ferings. Pussy willows are featured everywhere and move readily at prices ranging from 25 to 50 cents per bunch. Various Notes. The outlook for St. Valentine's day business is promising, and florists have rosy anticipations as to the sales on this day. Everywhere the windows are deco- rated with hearts, heart-shaped corsage boxes, and novelties that are exception- ally catchy. Together with extensive advertising, this day's business is ex- pected to triple that of last year's. Cor- sages of roses, peas, combinations of violets and freesias, and forget-me-nots are being advocated.
