Whether this—and evenwhether the total reversal was due to ignorance, carelessness, ordesign, who shall now say ; but supposing it to be due to design,we may perhaps see in this variety of the suastika (if I may looselyemploy a now convenient term) a combination of the supernaland infernal emblems : or, again—for it is well-known that thereversed suastika was used as a female symbol—an epicene emblemembracing the male and female duality of
