Illustration of the Serpent Column, aka the Serpentine Column, Plataea Tripod or Delphi Tripod, on the Hippodrome of Constantinople, now Istanbul Turkey. The column was a sacrificial tripod, originally in Delphi, but relocated to Constantinople in 324. The column commemorates the Greek Victory against the Persians at the Battle of Plataea in 479BC.
