Choristers sang on the highest part of magnificent Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire this morning (Fri) as they rehearse for a busy festive season. Stunning aerial photos show the choir boys and girls performing 66 metres up in the air on the top of the West Tower of the Norman cathedral in the heart of the Fens. The boys and girls got up early and climbed the 288 steps to the top of the Tower, which was built in 1189, to practise for their Christmas performances. The youngsters, who are all members of KingÕs Ely, rehearse four mornings a week before school and sing Evensong daily during term time. This year one of the Christmas highlights for the choirs will be their carol concert Hark! The Herald on December 22. A spokeswoman for Ely Cathedral said today (Fri): ÒThis is a really busy time of year for both the girlsÕ and boysÕ choirs, with lots of extra rehearsals. ÒBetween them, they will be performing at 15 additional concerts and services over the next three weeks, including two services on Christmas Eve and two services on Christmas Day.Ó
