The Professional Taxi Federation of Madrid (FPTM) has called a peaceful march this Thursday, January 12, in protest of the intention of the Madrid Community government team to approve a new Regulation that seeks to deregulate the sector and end, among others, with the payroll regime. Taxi drivers have carried all the ballots for the referendum held last November, in which 95% of the sector opposed this new regulation. Among the changes that the regional administration intends to carry out in 2023 are the one that taxi drivers can circulate 24 hours every day of the week, thus eliminating rest days; allow users to reserve a single place in a shared car; and liberalize taxi fares. The referendum called by the Professional Taxi Federation of Madrid (FPTM) was held on October 13 and 14 and more than 96% expressed their willingness to maintain the current payroll regime, thus opposing the changes in the Regulations of the Taxi of the Community of Madrid with which the regional government led by Díaz Ayuso "intends to impose" the liberalization of schedules and fares, as well as "leave municipalities without competition in the organization of taxi services." As announced by the Madrid Taxi Professional Federation, of the 7,413 votes cast by license holders ( of all Madrid taxi drivers), 7,407 were valid, while 6 were invalid.
