Snake's head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris), historical botanical illustration. This perennial plant is native to Europe, where it is found growing in woodlands and meadows. This chromolithograph is from the Swedish publication 'Pictures of Northern Flora' (Bilder ur Nordens Flora, 1905) by Swedish botanist Carl Lindman (1856-1928). Lindman was Professor of Botany at the Swedish Museum of Natural History (Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet). The chromolithographs in his book were based on 'Svensk botanik' (1802-1843) by Swedish naturalist Johan Wilhelm Palmstruch (1770-1811).
