Eight busts in a plaza in front of the Merchandise Mart line the north bank of the Chicago River. In the background are sun bathed buildings and skyscrapers on Wacker Drive that reside on the south bank of the river. The busts honor eight Americans merchants with four times life-sized bronze works that were commissioned by Joseph Kennedy and fashioned by different artists. They are mounted on concrete pillars and are of Marshall Field, Edward A. Filene; John R. Wanamaker, Julius Rosenwald, George Huntington Hartford; Robert E. Wood, Aaron Montgomery Ward, and Frank Winfield Woolworth Just beyond the busts a Brown Line L train crosses the river on the Wells Street Bridge.
