Planned by ESA with the Canadian and Japanese space agencies, this mission will use the proposed Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway space station as a staging post on both the outward and return journeys. HERACLES will survey areas of the lunar surface in preparation for future crewed missions to the Moon.
