New York, NY, October 13, 2012. Man walks past side-by-side advertisements, one promoting tolerance of Muslims the other denouncing Jihad, in the Times Square subway station.

A Christian group, the Sojourners, has placed pro-tolerance advertisements in New York's subway to counter the anti-jihad ads placed in September by the American Freedom Defense Initiative. The Sojourners' adverts read, "Love your Muslim neighbors." The anti-jihad ads read, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat jihad.” The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has said the anti-jihad ads have been defaced several times. The American Freedom Defense Initiative successfully sued the MTA for the right to place the advertisements. A Jewish group, Rabbis for Human Rights - North America, has also placed ads denouncing the anti-jihad ads.
