Swans on the frozen Cambridgeshire/Norfolk Fens at sunrise in Welney Wetland Centre.
Picture shows swans on the frozen Cambridgeshire Fens at sunrise in Welney on Friday morning January 27th. Swans were spotted skating on the frozen Cambridgeshire Fens this morning (Fri) as temperatures dipped below freezing overnight. Migratory Bewick and Whooper swans struggled to take off as they slipped on the icy fields near Welney. Each winter around 7,000 Whooper swans and 2,000 Bewick's migrate to the washes from Iceland and Russia. Whoopers undertake the longest sea crossing of any swan species, migrating up to 1,400km between Britain and Iceland.
