SuperWASP telescope. SuperWASP, the second generation of the Wide-Angle Search for Planets (WASP) comprises 8 high-tech digital cameras with 200 millimetre lenses, which together cover a wide field of view. They are mounted on a robot arm and photograph the night sky around 600 times a night, imaging about 50,000 stars each time. The images are examined by computer to look for temporary and repeated dimming of any star, which might suggest the transit of a planet. Photographed in 2006, at the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands.
