Japan: Aritomo Yamagata (14 June 1838 – 1 February 1922), Prime Minister of Japan from 1909 to 1922. Prince Yamagata Aritomo, also known as Yamagata Kyōsuke, was a Japanese field marshal, twice-elected Prime Minister of Japan, and one of the leaders of the Meiji oligarchy. As the Imperial Japanese Army’s inaugural Chief of Staff, he was the main architect of the military foundation of early modern Japan.
