The town of Jackson, Wyoming, was named in 1894 after David Edward Jackson (1788-1837), an American pioneer, trapper, fur trader and explorer. Jackson Hole and Jackson Lake are also named after him. The town's economic mainstay is Sundance Inn, at 135 West Broadway, was formerly known as the Flame Motel, being built in the mid-1950s and one of the last remaining examples of Word War 2-era architecture in the town. Deemed economically unfeasible in October 2011, its owners decided to demolish the inn and turn the site into a parking lot.
