The Winter Flowering Carnation So- ciety held its second annual show at the Botanic Gardens, Regents Park, Lon- don, March 13. The entries were good in all the classes excepting No. i, that for a coUecti'cn of cut carnations on a table 4 X 10 feet. Here S. Mortimer, Rowledge, Farnham, Surrey, was the winner with a neat group, the best va- rieties being Norway, Mrs. M. A. Pat- ten, Lady Bountiful, America, Afterglow and The Belle. In the premier group the large gold medal was awarded to H. Burnett, St. Margaret's Vineries, Guernsey. This group at once demonstrated the fact that, apart from the cultural points, Guernsey, with its ample sunshine, is most suitable fcr the carnation. As might be expected Mrs. H. Burnett took a leading place here; it is really fine apart from the lovely color. Of special interest also was the fine vase of Mar- raion, an immense two colored bloom having the deep, color cf Nelson Fisher, shading ofi^ to that of Enchantress. in value was the exhibit bv .\.
