View NNW of the north-east circle at Stanton Drew, Bath & NE Somerset, England, UK: a Neolithic ceremonial complex of three stone circles, two avenues & a Cove. Four ritual pits or holes for stones or wooden posts were located at the centre of the ring. A ruined avenue of stones leads E from the circle towards the River Chew. There are three circles at Stanton Drew on a bent NE-SSW axis. Alignments & sightlines pass through them to other monuments & major movements of the moon. The central Great Circle contained nine concentric circles of large wooden posts & stood within a ditched enclosure with an entrance at the NE. The stones are traditionally known as the Weddings after a group of guests were turned to stone for partying on into the Sabbath.
