It is one of seven run by British Energy and provides about 3% of the UK's energy. It is an Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor type containing two 15T5 MWTh reactors and two 660 MW generators. It's construction commenced in 1969, it started generating power in 1983 and decommissioning is planned for 2009-2014.
