A Salvadoran man, holding a hoe, passes through the gravesites decorated with colorful flowers during the Day of the Dead festivities at the cemetery in Izalco, El Salvador, 2 November 2016. Day of the Dead (‘Día de Muertos’) is a syncretic religious holiday, celebrated throughout Central America, combining the pre-hispanic traditions with the Catholic practice. People gather on the gravesites, praying, cleaning the tombs and adorning them with flowers, garlands and other offerings to remember and to honor their deceased family members and friends.
