It is said there is alarger area of rich virgin soil, adapted to the cultivation ofcotton, in the State of Texas alone, than in all the cottonStates east of the Mississippi River, and that in those countieslying npon the Guadalupe, Colorado, Brazos, Trinity, Sabine,and^Red rivers, the best, y^ro- excellence, of the Texas cottonregion, not one acre in a hundred has yet been cultivated. The wheat region of Texas is in the northern part of theState, and embraces some thirty counties, of which Dallas isthe center. The average yield in these counties is stated to beabout twenty-one bushels per acre.
