SPECIAL DEVICES 247 When the temperature of the water reaches the point at whichthe regulator is set to operate, the vapor from the volatile liquidexerts sufficient pressure to force enough liquid upward throughthe tube to expand the bellows and raise the weighted lever atthe top, which being connected with the draft-door by a chain,as in Fig. 173, checks the fire and thus reduces the temperatureof the water. Devices of this kind may be set to automatically control thetemperature of the water supplied to a heating system, and may. plom Holler Fig. 174. It isevident from their action that they control the system as a wholeand cannot be made to affect the different rooms separately. Telethermometer. This is a device for indicating on a dial at some central pointthe temperatures of various rooms or ducts in different parts ofa building. A special transmitter is placed in each of the rooms and elec-trically connected with a central switchboard. Then by meansof suitable switches any room may be thrown into circuit with therecorder, and the temperature existing in the room at that timeread from the dial. 248 HEATING AND VENTILATING PLANTSHumidostat. The humidostat is a device to be placed in one or more roomsof a building for maintaining an even precentage of moisturein the air. The apparatus consists of two esse
