The removal of a thin portion of theunderlying bone is sometimes practiced to insure successin this regard.* The Results.—Dowd reports twenty-three cases thatwere under his observation for periods of twelve days totwelve months, and in all but one the result was entirelysatisfactory. Dr. Dowds subsequent experience equalsin number and conforms in results to the preceding, sofar as he can now determine. Cotting sliced off together the healthy and affectedtissues down to the margin of the nail, and allowed thewound to heal by granulation (Fig.
