Hollowed chest following corrective surgery. Close-up of the chest of a 19-year-old male patient following surgery to correct pectus excavatum (hollowed chest). Pectus excavatum is a congenital disorder of the anterior wall of the chest in which several ribs and the sternum (breastbone) grow abnormally, resulting in a caved-in appearance of the chest. The condition can be corrected surgically (as here).
